(September 17, 2026) There have been continuous positive developments in the field of new organic silicon materials in China. The industrial application of carbon hydroxyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (carbon hydroxyl silicone oil) is continuing to expand. Due to its unique molecular structure, it is becoming a key functional intermediate in the fields of polyurethane, epoxy resin, and polyester materials modification, thereby accelerating the process of domestic substitution for high-end organic silicon raw materials.

Carbon hydroxyl silicone oil is a colorless, transparent liquid. Its molecular ends contain carbon hydroxyl reactive groups, which can react with isocyanate groups, epoxy groups, carboxyl groups, etc., allowing the polysiloxane chains to be connected to organic macromolecules through stable Si-C bonds. Compared with the Si-O-C bond structure formed by traditional hydroxyl silicone oil, the Si-C bond has better hydrolysis resistance, significantly improving the durability of modified materials under high temperature and humidity conditions, thereby enhancing the long-term stability of products.

In downstream applications, the primary use of carbon hydroxyl silicone oil is as a stabilizer for polyurethane foams. During the foaming process, this product can emulsify various components and stabilize the foam structure, preventing the collapse of foam cells and ensuring uniform porosity. This improves the resilience and softness of the foam, and it is widely used in automotive interiors and soft furniture foams. It also is used in resin modification, providing coatings, leathers, and textiles with weather resistance, smoothness, wear resistance, and low surface energy properties. In automotive component testing, polyurethane surfaces modified with carbon hydroxyl silicone oil remained intact during long-term aging tests at 85°C and 85% humidity, meeting the standards for high-end interior components. In addition, the product can serve as a hydrophilic lubricant or special release agent in industries such as plastic molding and metal processing.

Industry research shows that, driven by demand from the automotive, new energy, and high-end coatings industries, the market for carbon hydroxyl silicone oil remains stable and growing. In the past, high-quality carbon hydroxyl silicone oil was often supplied from abroad. However, domestic companies have improved their production processes over the years, enabling precise control over viscosity and hydroxyl value, reducing the presence of small molecules, and having multiple batches of products passed tests by major downstream customers. As a result, bulk supply is possible, delivery times are shortened, and the cost pressure on domestic new material companies is reduced.

Industry experts say that the organic silicon industry is moving toward lower levels of harmful substances, higher purity, and customized products. As a specialized type of silicone oil, carbon hydroxyl silicone oil differs from conventional hydroxyl silicone oil. Its main value lies in its use in polymer chemical modifications. In the future, as demand for hydrolytic resistance and long-term stability in downstream new materials increases, there is further potential for carbon hydroxyl silicone oil to be used in new energy-related materials, high-end textile additives, and environmentally friendly coatings. Domestic manufacturers will continue to improve their production processes, develop more customized specifications, and enhance the ability of the specialty organic silicon material industry chain to ensure self-sufficiency.
