(November 3, 2026) Recently, the organic silicon specialty additives industry has seen continued growth. Polyether silicone oils – which possess both hydrophilic and lipophilic properties – are experiencing a structural opportunity. There is sufficient production capacity for standard products; high-quality grades with low ring bodies, low VOC levels, and resistance to acids and alkalis are being replaced by domestic products at an accelerated pace. These materials serve as key interface materials that support the upgrading of various industrial sectors such as polyurethane foam production, water-based coatings, agricultural additives, and textile and personal care products.

Polyether silicone oils are special organic silicon surfactants in which polyether segments are attached to the siloxane backbone through silanol addition reactions. The siloxane segments give these oils extremely low surface tension and excellent spreading and wetting capabilities. The polyether segments, on the other hand, provide good water dispersibility and compatibility with organic systems. Unlike ordinary methyl silicone oils, they can be used in water-based systems and offer multiple functions such as even foam formation, leveling, defoaming, and wetting. In the polyurethane foam industry, they act as essential foam-forming stabilizers, ensuring that the foam cells are fine and uniform, thereby improving the dimensional stability of insulation materials. In water-based coatings and inks, a small amount of these oils can improve wetting and leveling properties, reducing defects such as shrinkage pores, orange peel effects, and pinholes. In agriculture, they are used as spray aids, reducing the surface tension of liquid solutions and enhancing leaf adhesion and absorption efficiency. They are also widely used in textile hydrophilic and softening treatments, industrial cleaning, and personal care formulations.

Industry research shows that the domestic market for polyether silicone oils is highly differentiated. The market for standard grades is well-competed, while high-purity customized products for new energy applications, high-end coatings, export-oriented personal care products, and overseas agricultural formulations rely heavily on imports. Since this year, many domestic organic silicon companies have continuously improved their closed-catalytic processes and introduced solvent-free polyether silicone oil products with low ring bodies. This has led to significant reductions in energy consumption and organic solvent emissions. The product specifications meet international regulations such as REACH and K-REACH, and their ability to supply goods abroad has increased. Many manufacturers can adjust the EO/PO ratio and the length of the siloxane chain according to downstream needs, shifting from selling standardized raw materials to providing customized solution packages, which aligns with the demands of sophisticated downstream production processes.

Industry analysts believe that with the ongoing efforts to transition to water-based systems and the steady increase in exports of organic silicon additives, demand for high-quality polyether silicone oils will continue to grow steadily over the next three years. The main development directions for the industry include the development of green and low-carbon processes, research on bio-based polyether silicone oils, and the replacement of high-end grades with domestic products. At the same time, downstream customers are demanding higher standards for metal ions, volatile impurities, and batch stability. Additionally, stricter chemical regulations around the world will accelerate the elimination of outdated production capacities, leading to a concentration of market share among leading companies that have capabilities in research, stable production, and compliance.

It is worth noting that as a product of advanced organic silicon processing, polyether silicone oils represent an important avenue for the domestic organic silicon industry to reduce price competition and increase product value. Many silicon material companies, leveraging the advantages of the Huizhou-Huaiyang industrial cluster, have established efficient processes for sample evaluation, pilot production, and large-scale supply. They provide various specifications and compliance documents to overseas customers, thereby increasing the share of domestic polyether silicone oils in the global specialty chemical additives market.
