(September 14, 2026) Domestic silicone materials companies are continuously improving the molecular regulation and purification processes for phenylsilicones. High-purity, low-ring-body phenylsilicones are supplied in large quantities and consistently, helping to accelerate the replacement of imported products in fields such as semiconductor optical packaging, aerospace, new energy, and high-end cosmetics. This has led to a steady expansion of the entire phenylsilicone market.
Phenylsilicone, also known as methylphenylpolysiloxane, is a functional silicone material obtained by modifying the traditional dimethylsilicone molecular chain by adding phenyl groups. Compared to ordinary methylsilicones, the phenyl structure provides the material with better resistance to high temperatures, radiation, and oxidation. Additionally, its refractive index can be adjusted; some grades remain stable as fluids within the range of -70°C to 300°C, solving the problem of material solidification at low temperatures and aging at high temperatures that often occurs in industrial applications. By adjusting the proportion of phenyl groups, the refractive index of the product can be precisely controlled between 1.46 and 1.62. Its excellent light transmission properties make it an essential material for high-power LEDs and the encapsulation of optical components.
In industrial applications, phenylsilicone has numerous uses. As a high-temperature thermal conductive medium, damping fluid, or insulating oil, it can be used in precision instruments, high-voltage electrical equipment, and high-temperature chain lubrication. In extreme environments such as aerospace and polar equipment, its resistance to radiation and ability to operate over a wide temperature range ensure long-term stable operation of equipment. In the new energy industry, phenylsilicone can be used for heat management in power batteries and the encapsulation of electronic devices. In the cosmetics industry, high-refractive-index phenylsilicones can give makeup and hair care products excellent shine and a smooth texture. Their compatibility with various formulations has led to growing demand for these materials in personal care products in recent years.
Industry research data shows that the market size of phenylsilicone in China is growing steadily, and the domestic production rate of high-end electronic-grade products is increasing. In the past, products with high phenyl content and ultra-high purity relied heavily on foreign suppliers. However, with domestic companies achieving success in core technologies such as single-component purification, polymerization control, and low-volatility processes, the batch stability of domestic products has improved significantly. They are now able to participate in high-demand supply chains such as semiconductor optoelectronic packaging and aerospace-related industries. Many companies are also implementing green production methods to reduce VOC emissions during manufacturing, and developing environmentally friendly grades with low odor and low residues, which are suitable for downstream industries with strict safety requirements, such as healthcare and cosmetics.
Industry experts believe that as the high-end equipment and optoelectronics industries in China continue to expand, demand for customized phenylsilicone products will increase further. In the future, research efforts will focus on developing phenylsilicones with lower ring-body content and specialized modifications, while also ensuring both material performance and green production standards. The domestic phenylsilicone industry chain will continue to advance in high-end markets, helping to reduce costs and increase efficiency in the domestic new materials industry.
