The products meet international standards in terms of precise control of hydroxyl content, metal ion impurities, and ring residue levels. This further accelerates the process of domestic substitution for high-quality hydroxylated silicone oils, providing stable materials for downstream industries such as new energy, semiconductors, and photovoltaics.
Hydroxylated silicone oil (α,ω-dihydroxypolydimethylsiloxane, commonly known as 107 glue) is a key intermediate in the silicone industry chain. Its molecules contain active hydroxyl groups, giving it excellent resistance to high and low temperatures, electrical insulation properties, and chemical stability. It can undergo condensation and cross-linking reactions. It serves as a fundamental ingredient for room-temperature vulcanized silicone rubbers, sealants, and encapsulation gels. It is also widely used as a modifier for silicone rubber structures, a fabric softener, and a anti-sticking treatment for paper. It is utilized across various industries such as electronics, photovoltaics, automotive, textiles, and healthcare.
Industry reports indicate that there is sufficient production capacity for ordinary viscosity hydroxylated silicone oils in China. However, high-purity low-ring hydroxylated silicone oils required by the electronics, semiconductor, and high-end medical industries have historically relied on imports. With rapid growth in demand in areas such as liquid cooling encapsulation for AI servers, packaging of power devices in new energy sectors, and sealing of photovoltaic modules, coupled with stricter environmental regulations both domestically and internationally, the market demands higher standards for hydroxylated silicone oil products, including lower ring residue levels and batch stability. Leading photovoltaic and energy storage companies have already conducted mass testing of domestic products. Compared to imported products, the supply time is shorter, and purchase costs are lower. Data shows that the dependence on imports for high-quality hydroxylated silicone oils in China continues to decrease, while the growth rate of specialty hydroxylated silicone oils for electronics and new energy sectors is significantly higher than the industry average.
Industry analysts say that the hydroxylated silicone oil market currently exhibits structural differentiation: generic products face intense competition, while there is a shortage of high-purity, low-ring, and low-metal ion specialty hydroxylated silicone oils. In the future, competition will shift from mere production capacity to customized molecular structures, impurity control, comprehensive compliance certifications, and stable delivery capabilities. As research and development in new materials continue to increase in China, hydroxylated silicone oil will play an increasingly important role in high-value applications such as semiconductor encapsulation, new energy vehicle electronics, and medical silicone gels.
