(September 11, 2026) The domestic organosilicon new material industry continues to advance the technological development of high-end vinyl silicone oils. Through a new linear polycondensation process, electronic-grade and low-ring vinyl silicone oils can be produced in large quantities, thereby accelerating the replacement of imported high-end organosilicon raw materials. This enables the supply of materials for downstream industries such as new energy vehicles, semiconductor packaging, and liquid silicone rubber (LSR).
Vinyl silicone oil is a functional polysiloxane with reactive vinyl groups in its molecular chain. It serves as the core raw material for addition-based silicone rubber. Crosslinking and curing occur through a silanol addition reaction; during this process, no small molecules are released. Vinyl silicone oil offers advantages such as resistance to high and low temperatures, electrical insulation properties, and low volatility. Products are divided into end-vinyl silicone oil and side-chain high-vinyl silicone oil based on the position of the vinyl group. Different viscosities and vinyl content levels can be customized, and these products are widely used in liquid silicone rubber, encapsulation for electronic components, LED optical encapsulation, and medical silicone products.
Industry reports indicate that there is sufficient production capacity for conventional vinyl silicone oil in China. However, the production of high-end products remains limited by technical challenges such as precise control of molecular weight, removal of ring structures, and control of trace metal ions. With increased research and development efforts by domestic new material companies, new linear synthesis methods have been implemented, which effectively reduce ring structures and volatile components, and control metal ions to the ppm level. This helps address issues like blooming of products, optical fogging, and electronic contact failures, thereby meeting the stringent reliability requirements of high-end optoelectronic and power semiconductors.
In terms of downstream markets, the new energy industry has become the main driver of growth for vinyl silicone oil. In applications such as battery module sealing, electronic control systems, and IGBT module encapsulation, low-volatility, high-purity vinyl silicone oil is used to make addition-based silicone rubber. Orders for odorless, high-purity materials in consumer electronics, wearable devices, and medical supplies are also increasing steadily. Meanwhile, overseas LSR production capacity is shifting towards Asia-Pacific regions. In the first half of 2026, exports of high-end vinyl silicone oil in China increased by over 34% compared to the previous year. Orders from the electronics manufacturing industries in Southeast Asia and North America continue to grow.
In terms of market conditions, competition in the general-purpose vinyl silicone oil market is intense, leading to price pressures. However, high-end customized products such as those for electronics and healthcare enjoy higher prices. Industry experts say that the focus of industry development has shifted from capacity expansion to quality improvement. Purchasing decisions are now based on factors such as batch stability, compatibility with catalytic systems, and comprehensive technical support services. Manufacturers with stable purification processes and comprehensive testing systems continue to gain an advantage.
Looking ahead, with the continued expansion of new energy vehicles and optoelectronic industries, demand for vinyl silicone oil is expected to remain strong. Research efforts will focus on developing low-ring modified and highly active specialty vinyl silicone oils. Green, low-VOC synthesis methods will become more common, allowing manufacturers to comply with increasingly strict environmental regulations both domestically and internationally. Domestic high-end vinyl silicone oil manufacturers are likely to increase their market share in the next two years, enabling them to control key aspects of the entire organosilicon new material industry chain.
