Thanks to its key properties such as UV-curable nature, low surface tension, and resistance to weathering and yellowing, this modified silicone material is being widely used in various downstream applications including UV-curable coatings, inks, adhesives, 3D printing, and textile additives. It serves as a crucial functional ingredient that addresses the limitations of traditional acrylic materials, such as brittleness, poor weather resistance, and uneven coating surfaces.

Acrylic silicone oil, also known as acrylate-modified silicone oil, is a functional silicone compound in which reactive double bonds are introduced into the polysiloxane backbone. Its molecular structure combines the advantages of silicone materials—such as resistance to high and low temperatures and low surface energy—with the radical polymerization capability of acrylic groups. It can participate in copolymerization reactions within resin systems rather than being simply mixed physically. This allows for the stable integration of silicone segments into the polymer network, preventing issues like migration or precipitation of silicone oils, which would otherwise affect adhesion properties.

According to industry technical data, this material has both UV and moisture-curing capabilities, with fast curing speed and low energy consumption. When added to coatings and inks, it significantly improves flowability and substrate wetting properties, reduces defects such as orange peel and voids during application. It also provides smooth, scratch-resistant, anti-graffiti, and hydrophobic/waterproof characteristics to the coating, reduces internal stress after curing, enhances flexibility of the coating, and alleviates the problem of brittleness that often occurs in acrylic resins. High-purity products have low volatiles and minimal impurities; they exhibit excellent resistance to yellowing and aging. Over time, outdoor coatings can maintain their appearance, thereby extending the service life of products.

In practical applications, acrylic silicone oil can be used in various curing systems, including water-based, solvent-based, and solvent-free methods. It acts as a smoothing agent in UV-curable wood coatings, plastic coatings, and PCB anti-corrosion inks. In optical adhesives and pressure-sensitive adhesives, it helps to regulate stress levels and improve interface compatibility. In the textile industry, it is used for environmentally friendly, non-fluorinated waterproof treatments, improving the feel of fabrics and enhancing wash resistance. It is also an important raw material for UV-curable resins used in 3D printing and high-end cosmetic coatings. With stricter regulations on VOCs in the EU and China, demand for low-VOC, copolymerizable silicone additives continues to grow. Customized developments of acrylic silicone oil—with adjustable molecular weight, double bond functionality, and viscosity—have become a key focus for manufacturers.

Industry experts believe that China’s production capacity for acrylic silicone oil is gradually improving, and high-purity, single-functional products are being developed regularly. This is helping to reduce the reliance on imported additives in high-end UV-curable materials. In the future, as coatings, electronics, and additive manufacturing industries shift towards higher performance and sustainability, further improvements will be made to acrylic silicone oil products. These products will play an important role in emerging coating applications such as new energy and optical display technologies, creating significant market opportunities.
