(August 25, 2026) There have been continuous technological breakthroughs in the domestic new organic silicon materials industry. Multiple continuous production lines for high-end polyether silicone oils have completed process optimizations and capacity expansions. Domestic products are increasingly being used in high-value-added sectors such as coatings, personal care products, new energy technologies, and agricultural additives, while the pace of replacing imported products continues to accelerate.
Polyether silicone oils are modified organic silicon surfactants. Their molecules combine a hydrophobic structure from organic silicon with a hydrophilic chain segment from polyether. These substances possess properties such as low surface tension, excellent wetting and spreading capabilities, and compatibility with emulsions. They are essential functional ingredients in water-based coatings, cosmetic products, pesticide spray aids, textile finishing processes, and industrial defoaming systems.
Industry research data shows that the global market size of polyether silicone oils is continuing to grow, with an annual compound growth rate of 6.5%–7%. The Asia-Pacific region, especially the Chinese market, is the main driver of this growth, with the domestic market size expected to exceed 5.2 billion yuan. However, there is a clear structural differentiation within the industry: the production capacity of general-purpose polyether silicone oils is relatively surplus, and the industry operating rate is less than 75%; on the other hand, low-halogen, low-VOC, bio-based, and complex-modified high-end products are in short supply, leading to a growing market gap.
Due to rising costs of raw materials such as DMC and propylene oxide, the overall cost of the polyether silicone oils market has been supported by strong price levels this year. The supply of high-end specialty products is limited, and delivery times for small-scale custom orders have increased. At the same time, stricter environmental policies both at home and abroad, along with EU chemical regulations and domestic green standards for organic silicon products, force downstream manufacturers to prefer low-volatility, easily biodegradable modified organic silicon products. Thus, the environmental advantages of polyether silicone oils over traditional pure silicone oils become even more prominent.
From an application perspective, various factors such as the replacement of solvent-based coatings with water-based coatings, the export of domestic beauty products, the promotion of modern and efficient agriculture, and the use of new energy materials are driving demand for high-end products. In the past, many low-leaching polyether silicone oils relied heavily on imports; now, several domestic companies have achieved large-scale production. These products can be designed with specific molecular structures tailored to different HLB values, temperature resistance, and acid or alkali resistance, gradually breaking the long-term monopoly of foreign brands in the high-end additive market.
Industry analysts say that in the next two to three years, competition in the industry will shift from simply focusing on production capacity to competing in customized development, quality stability, and green compliance capabilities. Bio-based polyether silicone oils, low-halogen silicone products, and specialized modified products for specific applications will become key areas of research and development for companies. With the advancement of domestic technology, polyether silicone oils are expected to gain further acceptance in emerging fields such as semiconductor auxiliary materials and medical coatings.
