High-end electronic-grade and low-traplet hydrogenated silicone oils have achieved several technological breakthroughs. Emerging fields such as new energy vehicles, AI computing liquid cooling systems, and semiconductor packaging continue to create new market opportunities.
As a key intermediate in the silicone industry chain, hydrogenated silicone oil can undergo hydrogenation reactions due to silicon-hydrogen bonds. It serves as a crucial raw material for producing modified silicone oils, additive-based silicone rubbers, textile finishing agents, and silicone resins. The performance of these products directly determines the crosslinking efficiency, stability, and application limits of downstream silicone-based materials. In the past, China had sufficient production capacity for mid-to-low-end hydrogenated silicone oils. However, high-end grades with low volatility, low traplets, and narrow molecular weight distributions faced technical challenges, and some high-end applications relied on imported products.
In 2026, Chinese companies made significant progress in areas such as catalyst systems, precise control of molecular structures, and the utilization of by-products. Public patents show that by using temperature-sensitive catalytic systems combined with gradient cooling and stepwise feeding processes, low-viscosity, low-traplet hydrogenated silicone oils can be produced with narrow molecular weight distributions and low impurity levels. These products are suitable for high-demand applications such as electronic materials and high-end modified syntheses, thereby reducing problems caused by the formation of small-molecule traps. Additionally, technologies for converting silicone by-products into high-value products have been developed, improving the overall utilization rate of hydrogenated silicone oil raw materials. This helps reduce production costs while meeting the requirements of green manufacturing, accelerating the localization of high-end grades.
In terms of market demand, traditional textile and household chemicals industries remain the main consumer markets for hydrogenated silicone oil, while new energy and computing infrastructure are driving growth. The 800V high-voltage platform of new energy vehicles has increased demand for sealing and insulating silicone rubber. The adoption of immersion liquid cooling solutions in AI data centers has led to rapid growth in the market for high-insulating silicone oil coolants, further increasing the demand for high-purity hydrogenated silicone oil. Industry reports estimate that the demand for hydrogenated silicone oil in China will continue to rise in 2026. Specialized grades with high hydrogen content and tailored modifications are expected to grow faster than ordinary general grades. Asia-Pacific region will continue to account for a significant portion of global consumption, and China’s role in the global supply chain will become even more important.
On the supply side, China’s total production capacity continues to expand, but market differentiation is increasing. Ordinary general grades are highly competitive, while high-end electronic-grade and customized grades are in short supply. Downstream customers require stricter standards regarding hydrogen content stability, ionic impurities, and volatilization levels. There are two main directions for industry development: first, making processes more environmentally friendly by using solvent-free synthesis and continuous production to reduce VOC emissions; second, offering customized products for applications such as battery sealing, semiconductor packaging, and flexible electronics, with precise control of active hydrogen, viscosity, and molecular structure based on customer requirements.
Industry experts say that as Chinese silicone companies increase their research and development efforts, the proportion of high-end hydrogenated silicone oil produced domestically will further increase. In the future, industry competition will not be based solely on production capacity. Control of raw materials, catalytic technologies, quality control stability, and custom development capabilities will become the core competitiveness of companies. At the same time, environmentally friendly products with low traplets and low volatility will become the mainstream direction for industry development.
