In the market for methyl silicone oil – a basic material used in organosilicon products – prices of general-purpose products remain volatile, while demand for high-purity models continues to rise. Downstream sectors such as new energy, electronics and electrical engineering, and cosmetics drive the industry toward more refined applications.
Methyl silicone oil possesses excellent thermal stability, electrical insulation properties, low surface tension, and chemical inertness. Its viscosity ranges from 10cs to 1 million cs, and it is widely used as an antifoam agent, release agent, lubricant, and leveling agent. It is applied in various fields including industrial manufacturing, textiles, cosmetics, electronic packaging, and new energy. It is the most widely produced and consumed type of base silicone oil in the organosilicon industry.
In recent market conditions, due to fluctuations in DMC raw materials from upstream suppliers, prices of conventional industrial-grade methyl silicone oil in China have increased slightly. The price differences between products with different viscosities and qualities have further increased. There is a clear differentiation in market supply; some small and medium-sized manufacturers face difficulties due to maintenance activities and raw material constraints, resulting in fluctuations in supply stability. Leading companies maintain stable operations and ensure delivery of mainstream orders. High-purity methyl silicone oil for electronic applications and those free from ring-shaped impurities are in short supply, leading to higher prices. Industry experts suggest that current market prices are inconsistent, and there is a wide range in product quality. Companies should carefully check key parameters such as ring-shaped impurity levels, volatiles, and viscosity stability to avoid trading risks.
In terms of demand, traditional textile, rubber and plastic casting, and cosmetics industries continue to have stable demand. New sectors such as battery cooling sealing in new energy vehicles and insulation protection for semiconductor devices are becoming important growth areas. There is a growing demand for high-purity methyl silicone oil that has low volatiles, low metal ions, and no ring-shaped impurities. The process of replacing imported high-purity methyl silicone oil with domestic products is accelerating. In the past, domestic high-purity methyl silicone oil relied heavily on imports. With continuous improvements in polymerization and distillation technologies, domestic companies are now able to produce large quantities of products with low ring-shaped impurities and low impurities, gradually narrowing the performance gap compared to foreign products. Some of these technological achievements have been recognized by national patents.
From the perspective of industry development, the domestic methyl silicone oil industry is moving away from simply focusing on scale expansion and transitioning towards customized, high-purity, and environmentally compliant products. Regions such as the EU have stricter regulations regarding ring-shaped siloxanes, forcing manufacturers to improve their distillation processes and control the levels of ring-shaped impurities such as D4/D5/D6, in order to meet export requirements.
