(November 2, 2026) There are continuous positive developments in the domestic specialty silicone materials industry. Benzyl silicone oil, due to its unique properties such as resistance to wide temperature ranges, radiation exposure, high insulation capabilities, and adjustable refractive index, is in demand steadily in areas like liquid cooling for AI computing power, high-voltage platforms for new energy technologies, optoelectronic packaging, and high-end cosmetics. With the continuous improvement of purification and molecular regulation processes, the market penetration of domestic benzyl silicone oil is increasing. The industry is shifting from competition over general types to a competition based on advanced technical features.

Benzyl silicone oil, also known as methyl phenyl polysiloxane, introduces phenyl groups into the silicone oil molecule chain, thereby overcoming the disadvantages of ordinary dimethyl silicone oil, such as easy decomposition at high temperatures and easy crystallization at low temperatures. Its stable operating range ranges from -70°C to 350°C; some high-phenyl grades can withstand temperatures up to 380°C for short periods. It also possesses excellent radiation resistance, low volatility, and high light transmittance properties. It is a high-end functional material within the silicone family. By adjusting the proportion of phenyl groups, the refractive index of the product can be precisely controlled within the range of 1.46–1.62, making it suitable for various applications such as optical device packaging and high-shine cosmetic formulations.

In terms of downstream applications, immersion liquid cooling for computing infrastructure is becoming a new growth area for benzyl silicone oil. Compared to traditional cooling media, benzyl silicone oil has good insulation properties and strong chemical stability, making it suitable for long-term continuous operation of high-density servers. Many domestic liquid cooling providers have completed reliability tests of domestic benzyl silicone oil and are gradually entering the stage of bulk procurement. The 800V high-voltage platform of new energy vehicles and the packaging of IGBT power devices require heat-resistant and insulating materials. Benzyl silicone oil grades that meet IATF16949 automotive standards are helping to replace imported materials, reducing overall costs for the supply chain. In addition, there is stable growth in demand for specialized products in aerospace, nuclear industry precision instruments, LED optical packaging, and high-end skincare and cosmetics ingredients.

Industry data shows that the domestic market size of benzyl silicone oil is growing at a double-digit rate, and the localization rate of high-end grades is increasing continuously. The barriers to high-purity and high-phenyl-content products, which were previously controlled by foreign companies, are being overcome. Domestic manufacturers are focusing on core processes such as removal of trace impurities, controlled copolymerization, and green synthesis. Many production lines use solvent-free synthesis and solvent recovery techniques, with a solvent recovery rate exceeding 95%, aligning with the low-carbon manufacturing approach of the new material industry. Many silicone material companies are developing a full range of products, including general lubricating types, radiation-resistant types, high-refractive-index optical types, and special types for cosmetics. They can provide customized formulations and small-scale rapid testing services to customers both domestically and internationally, and export orders are increasing steadily.

Industry analysts say that the benzyl silicone oil industry is currently experiencing structural differentiation: there is intense competition for mid- and low-end grades, while high-value-added products such as automotive-grade, semiconductor-grade, and optical-grade products still face supply shortages. This is also the main focus of domestic companies’ research and development efforts. As downstream high-end manufacturing and computing power industries continue to expand, along with government policies supporting self-reliance in new materials, it is expected that the market share of high-end benzyl silicone oil will continue to increase in the next two years. At the same time, overseas customers are demanding higher compliance certifications, batch stability, and delivery timelines. This forces domestic companies to continuously improve their quality management systems and expand opportunities in the overseas B-side market.

At the same time, the industry also faces challenges: the development cycle for high-end product formulations is long, and the verification processes for downstream customers are strict. The requirements for viscosity, ionic impurities, and thermal weight loss indicators vary greatly depending on different application scenarios, putting high demands on companies’ formulation and testing capabilities. In the future, leading manufacturers with stable mass production capabilities, complete testing capabilities, and multiple certification options will gain an advantage in the global benzyl silicone oil market.
