(October 29, 2026) The silicone intermediate market continues to attract significant attention in the industry. Hydrogen-containing silicone oils, which serve as key crosslinking agents for grafted silicone rubber and essential raw materials for modified silicone oils, are experiencing steady growth in orders for applications such as photovoltaic energy storage, new energy vehicles, AI liquid cooling systems, and electronic encapsulation. The industrial structure is continuously evolving towards higher purity, lower impurities, and reduced ring structures.

Hydrogen-containing silicone oils (polymethyl hydrogen siloxanes) are functional siloxanes with active Si-H bonds; they appear as colorless and transparent liquids. Due to their ability to undergo graft reactions, they can be used as crosslinking agents together with vinyl silicone oils to produce liquid silicone rubber, electronic encapsulants, and optical adhesives. They can also be used as synthetic intermediates, with groups such as polyethers, phenyl groups, and epoxy groups attached to them, thereby producing various modified silicone oils. Additionally, they are widely used as waterproofing agents for fabrics, surface treatment agents for powders, and anti-sticking additives for coatings. They are crucial basic materials that span the entire silicone industry chain. Based on the hydrogen content, high-hydration grades have strong crosslinking activity and are mainly used in silicone rubber and photovoltaic encapsulation materials; low-hydration grades, with milder reactions, are more commonly used in textile finishing and coating application fields.

In terms of market dynamics, there is sufficient production capacity for general industrial-grade hydrogen-containing silicone oils in China, leading to intense competition. However, there is a long-term supply shortage for high-end special grades that require low hydroxyl content and low volatility. This remains a priority for domestic manufacturers at present. With the implementation of continuous synthesis and purification processes, Chinese companies have managed to achieve stable and controllable levels of impurities, viscosity, and hydrogen content. The consistency of products has improved significantly, and more domestic materials now meet international regulations such as REACH and K-REACH. As a result, B2B foreign trade orders continue to increase.

The structure of downstream demand is undergoing significant changes. Demand in traditional textile, leather, and building material waterproofing industries remains stable, while the new demand comes from new energy and computing infrastructure: materials required for photovoltaic POE film, sealing for power battery components, insulation for energy storage systems, and media materials for AI server immersion cooling systems all require high standards regarding the purity, thermal stability, and low precipitation properties of hydrogen-containing silicone oils. This drives downstream customers to prefer stable high-end grades. Industry research shows that the global hydrogen-containing silicone oil market is growing steadily, with Asia-Pacific being the core region for production and consumption. China’s production capacity is becoming increasingly important within the global supply chain.

Industry analysts say that in the future, the focus of competition in the hydrogen-containing silicone oil sector will not be simply on expanding production capacity, but rather on developing customized formulations, green continuous production processes, comprehensive quality control, and compliance services. With the need for diversified overseas supply chains, Chinese silicone companies are rapidly developing specialized grades to meet the needs of overseas customers, offering customized products with specific viscosities and hydrogen contents. They are seizing the opportunity presented by the substitution of foreign materials with domestic ones and the restructuring of global chemical supply chains. In the long term, the continued expansion of new energy, semiconductor, and computing industries will continue to create opportunities for growth in high-end hydrogen-containing silicone oils.
