(October 20, 2026) The organic silicon specialty additives industry is experiencing continuous growth. Polyether silicone oil – also known as polyether-modified polysiloxane – benefits from its unique amphiphilic structure. Its demand increases across various downstream industries such as coatings, daily chemicals, textiles, polyurethanes, and new energy technologies. In China, the industrialization of high-end products is accelerating, and the process of replacing imported products by domestic products is also speeding up.
Polyether silicone oil is a functional organic silicon surfactant. By incorporating the low surface tension and excellent spreading/wetting properties of organic silicon into the polyether chains of polysiloxane, it can effectively mix with water and polar organic solvents. It also possesses multiple functions such as leveling, even foam formation, softness, and anti-static properties. It is often referred to as “industrial flavor enhancer” in fine chemical manufacturing. In traditional applications, it serves as a key foam-forming agent in polyurethane foam production, as well as an effective leveling and wetting agent for water-based coatings and inks. In the textile industry, it is used in post-treatment processes to give fabrics a hydrophilic and soft texture, thereby improving the anti-static properties of synthetic fibers. In personal care products, it enhances the smoothness and combability of hair. In agricultural protection, it acts as a spray aid, reducing the surface tension of the liquid and improving its adhesion and absorption on plant leaves. With the advancement of industrial upgrading, there is a significant increase in demand for high-purity, low-halogen polyether silicone oil in high-tech fields such as new energy and semiconductor precision cleaning, which has become a new driver of market growth.
For a long time, the high-end polyether silicone oil market was dominated by foreign chemical companies. The cost of imported products was high, and delivery times were long. In recent years, domestic silicone chemical companies have focused on molecular design and synthesis processes. New solvent-free catalytic production methods have been implemented, effectively reducing the presence of harmful substances such as ring siloxanes and VOCs in the products. Many key parameters meet or exceed current national standards, and the product performance can be compared with international leading brands. At the same time, production costs are reduced, and delivery times are shortened. With a complete domestic organic silicon raw material supply chain, domestic polyether silicone oil not only meets the needs of local manufacturing but also sees continued growth in export orders, with products being sold in Southeast Asia, Europe, and other regions.
Environmental compliance is becoming an important aspect of industry development. Current EU REACH regulations and domestic green control standards for organic silicon are becoming stricter. Restrictive requirements regarding ring siloxanes and PFAS are increasing. Downstream buyers are increasingly preferring products that have low residues and are environmentally friendly, which forces the industry to innovate. Manufacturers can adjust parameters such as the EO/PO ratio and molecular chain length to develop specialized products tailored to different applications, thereby meeting the diverse needs of customers.
According to industry research data, the global polyether silicone oil market will continue to grow steadily, with Asia-Pacific being the largest consumer market. Analysts believe that future competition in the industry will shift from general products to high-purity, customized special grades. Domestic companies will continue to focus on high-end sectors such as semiconductors and new energy, further expanding the space for domestic substitution. Green and low-carbon synthesis technologies, along with the ability to customize molecules, will become the core competitiveness of these companies.
