(October 16, 2026) Progress has been made in the domestic organic silicon new material sector. The industrial production and application of aromatic alkylsilicone oils, which contain both alkyl and aromatic functional groups, are continuing to advance. Due to their unique compatibility and high-temperature resistance properties, these products are helping to replace imported alternatives in areas such as die-casting demolding, coating additives, personal care products, and polymer processing. They have become a popular category in the high-end modified silicone oil market.
Aromatic alkylsilicone oils are special organic silicon fluids in which long-chain alkyl and aromatic groups are attached to the main siloxane chain. Unlike traditional dimethylsilicone oils, their molecular structure combines the advantages of organic hydrocarbons and siloxane chains. The aromatic groups provide the material with excellent heat resistance and anti-oxidation properties, while the long-chain alkyl groups enhance its ability to mix with mineral oils, synthetic resins, and organic coatings. This solves the problems associated with ordinary silicone oils, such as incompatibility with organic systems, easy precipitation, and interference with subsequent coating and printing processes. These products are typically transparent and uniform liquids that form stable films; they also possess multiple functions such as lubrication, demolding, and hydrophobicity.
In industrial manufacturing, aromatic alkylsilicone oils are primarily used as raw materials for demulsifiers for high-pressure die-casting of aluminum and magnesium alloys. Under high-temperature conditions, they can form a uniform and dense lubricating film. After demolding, the surface of the workpiece remains clean, without affecting subsequent spraying, printing, or electroplating processes. They are widely used in the production of lightweight automotive parts, 3C devices, and new energy components. They can also serve as processing aids for rubber and plastic manufacturing, base oils for high-temperature lubricants, and lubricants for fiber spinning, making them suitable for friction conditions involving difficult-to-lubricate materials like stainless steel and titanium alloys.
In the consumer market, high refractive index aromatic alkylsilicone oils are increasingly used in high-end beauty and cosmetics formulations. In hair care products, they improve the smoothness and shine of hair. In lipsticks, foundation, and sunscreen formulations, they enhance spreadability, enabling the development of transparent cosmetic products. They are one of the functional silicone oils that beauty product manufacturers prioritize.
Industry research indicates that in the past, the supply of high-end aromatic alkylsilicone oils was mainly controlled by foreign silicone companies. However, in recent years, domestic companies have overcome key challenges such as precise molecular control and purification. Domestic products now match international standards in terms of thermal stability, impurity control, and batch consistency, while also offering cost advantages. As the domestic organic silicon industry shifts towards high-value specialty materials, production capacity for aromatic alkylsilicone oils is increasing steadily, and domestic self-sufficiency rates are rising. These products are now supplied to domestic manufacturing enterprises, and some brands have entered overseas export supply chains.
Industry analysts say that with the continued expansion of industries such as new energy vehicles, high-end die-casting, beauty products, and high-end coatings, demand for compatible specialty silicone oils is growing. In the future, the focus of industry development will be on developing low-volatility, odorless green products, and further improving the compatibility of these products with low-VOC formulations. At the same time, companies will continue to improve technical services for downstream customers, providing customized viscosity and modification ratios of aromatic alkylsilicone oils, thereby exploring more niche opportunities. The overall organic silicon industry is shifting from competition based on bulk basic products to competition over advanced modified new materials like aromatic alkylsilicone oils.
