(September 22, 2026) There are ongoing positive developments in the domestic organic silicon fine chemical industry. Hydrogen-containing silicone oil, which serves as a key intermediate in the production of grafted silicone rubber and modified silicone oils, benefits from the demand from downstream industries such as photovoltaics, new energy vehicles, and electronic packaging. As a result, market demand is increasing steadily, and the industry is accelerating its transition towards higher purity, lower volatility, and customized products.

Hydrogen-containing silicone oil molecules contain reactive silicon-hydrogen bonds, allowing them to undergo hydrogenation reactions under the action of platinum catalysts. It is an essential functional intermediate in the organic silicon industry. It can be used as a crosslinking agent to produce silicone gels, potting adhesives, and silicone rubbers. It also serves as a waterproofing agent for fabrics, a anti-adhesive agent for paper, and a raw material for surface coatings. Its applications cover various fields such as textiles, construction, electronics, and new energy. Low-hydride-content silicone oil is mainly used as a textile additive or release coating; high-hydride-content silicone oil, with higher reactivity, is primarily used in high-end packaging, thermal conductive materials, and special composite materials.

In terms of market conditions, demand in traditional textile and construction waterproofing sectors remains stable, while the growth comes from the new energy sector. Glazing adhesives for photovoltaic modules, thermal potting adhesives for power battery packs, and sealing materials for energy storage devices all require highly stable hydrogen-containing silicone oil as a crosslinking component. With the advancement of photovoltaic technology and the increase in the penetration of new energy vehicles, downstream customers have set stricter requirements regarding the impurity content, volatility, and hydrogen content stability of hydrogen-containing silicone oil. The process of domestic substitution for high-end products is accelerating. Many domestic organic silicon companies have recently optimized their continuous production processes, improved product consistency, and narrowed the gap with foreign brands in terms of ultra-high purity products.

Industry experts say that in the past, high-end electronic and aerospace applications relied heavily on imported low-ionic-impurity hydrogen-containing silicone oil. However, through recent technological advancements, domestic manufacturers have been able to provide it in small quantities and consistently. At the same time, green production has become a common practice in the industry. Companies are gradually replacing high-pollution batch processes with continuous synthesis and efficient purification technologies, thereby reducing VOC emissions and meeting the increasingly strict environmental and chemical compliance standards both domestically and internationally.

In terms of product development, the focus of the industry has shifted from general-purpose hydrogen-containing silicone oil to customized solutions. For applications such as Mini LED, semiconductor packaging, and flexible electronics, manufacturers are developing low-stress, low-volatility specialty hydrogen-containing silicone oils. For outdoor textile fabrics, they offer modified materials that are resistant to washing and chlorination. Customized molecular structures and precise specifications are key factors that enable companies to gain a competitive edge.

However, the industry also faces challenges. Fluctuations in the price of upstream organic silicon monomers, stricter environmental regulations, and longer certification periods for some high-end applications remain obstacles to industry development. It is predicted that in the next few years, the hydrogen-containing silicone oil market will experience structural differentiation: competition in general-purpose products will increase, and profit margins will be pressured; high-purity and specialty modified hydrogen-containing silicone oils will continue to benefit from new energy and high-end manufacturing trends, maintaining high growth rates. With the deepening integration of the industrial chain, the domestic hydrogen-containing silicone oil industry is expected to further strengthen its advantages and support the independent development of China’s new material industry.
