(September 21, 2026) In the domestic organic silicon specialty materials sector, new technological and industrial advancements have been made in epoxy silicone oil products. With the increasing demand from downstream industries such as new energy, electronic packaging, high-end industrial coatings, and textile finishing for low VOC and highly stable reactive organic silicon additives, domestic epoxy silicone oils have gradually narrowed the gap with overseas high-end products through optimized molecular structures and improved green synthesis processes. This has become a key driver of growth in the organic silicon new material market.
Epoxy silicone oil is a modified polysiloxane containing epoxy reactive groups. It possesses the characteristics of organic siloxanes – resistance to high and low temperatures, low surface tension, flexibility, and weather resistance – along with the ability to form bonds through the epoxy groups. Unlike ordinary inert silicone oils, the epoxy groups can undergo ring-opening cross-linking reactions with amines and hydroxyl groups, allowing them to be incorporated into resin systems via chemical bonds. This effectively addresses the issues associated with epoxy resins, such as brittleness, high internal stress, and susceptibility to cracking after curing. Additionally, it improves the adhesion and aging resistance of coatings and adhesives. After curing, no small molecules are released, making it suitable for environmentally friendly production processes.
According to industry reports, traditional epoxy silicone oils are typically produced using solvent-based methods, which have drawbacks such as solvent residues, batch differences in color, and high energy consumption during purification. In recent years, domestic companies have focused on developing solvent-free synthesis methods, thereby simplifying production processes, reducing VOC emissions, improving product transparency, and stabilizing the epoxy value fluctuations. Products with different molecular weights and epoxy contents can be customized according to customer requirements, enabling them to be used in various formulations. Once this technology is implemented, the first-pass yield rate of products will increase significantly, reducing defective products and helping epoxy silicone oils move beyond their role as traditional textile additives to become part of high-end new materials.
In terms of applications, demand for epoxy silicone oil is growing in multiple areas. In the electronics industry, it is used as a modifier in LED and sensor encapsulants, helping to reduce stress cracking caused by thermal cycling and ensuring long-term stability of devices. In industrial anti-corrosion coatings, it enhances the resistance of coatings to acids and alkalis as well as UV exposure, aligning with new regulations regarding harmful substances in industrial coatings. In the textile industry, it serves as a cross-linked softening agent, providing fabrics with a durable and smooth feel, as well as wrinkle resistance and wash resistance. Its use also increases in composite materials, leather finishing, and adhesives.
Industry analysts believe that the global organic silicon production landscape is changing. Major foreign manufacturers are reducing production of some basic siloxanes, while domestic specialty organic siloxanes are entering a period of domestic substitution. Currently, mid-range and low-end epoxy silicone oils are fully produced domestically, but specialized epoxy silicone oils for high-value applications such as automotive electronics and high-end optical encapsulation still rely on imports. Domestic manufacturers are continuously investing in molecular design research, developing special grades with low yellowing, ultra-low volatility, and high compatibility, thereby increasing their share in the high-end market.
Driven by “dual carbon” and environmental protection policies, downstream industries are placing greater emphasis on green, low-carbon, and low-emission materials. As a reactive organic silicon intermediate, epoxy silicone oil will continue to see growth in high-value sectors such as new energy, advanced electronics, and high-end anti-corrosion coatings. It is expected that with continuous improvement in synthesis processes and lower costs, domestic epoxy silicone oils will expand their market share both domestically and internationally, contributing to the upgrading of the downstream new materials industry.
