There are continuous positive developments in the specialty silicone materials industry. Domestic phenylsilicone products have made significant breakthroughs in key processes such as the synthesis of high-purity monomers and batch stability. High-end products are gradually replacing imported materials, thereby supporting the upgrading of high-tech manufacturing sectors such as semiconductors, new energy vehicles, photovoltaics, and optical devices.
Phenylsilicone is a type of special silicone fluid. It is a transparent oily material formed when some methyl groups on the methylsilicone molecule chain are replaced by phenyl groups. Thanks to the presence of phenyl functional groups, this material possesses superior properties such as resistance to high temperatures, radiation exposure, high insulation, and high refractive index. It can operate reliably within a wide temperature range of -70°C to 300°C, and also has good light transmittance and antioxidant capabilities. It is an essential functional material for high-tech manufacturing applications.
In terms of downstream applications, demand for phenylsilicone is growing rapidly. In the semiconductor and computing industries, high-purity phenylsilicone is used in IGBT power devices, chip encapsulation, and immersion cooling systems for AI servers. Its high insulation and thermal stability ensure stable operation of high-power chips. In the optical and LED industries, its controllable high refractive index reduces interface light loss and improves LED efficiency. It is also used in automotive optical lenses and display module packaging. Over time, there are no issues related to migration or fogging. In the new energy vehicle industry, phenylsilicone serves as a heat-conducting sealing medium for power battery modules and vehicle charging devices, helping to reduce the risk of thermal runaway. In the photovoltaic industry, it is used as an impregnation oil for capacitors and filling material for junction boxes, allowing it to withstand complex outdoor temperature and humidity conditions and extend the service life of electrical equipment. Additionally, phenylsilicone can be used in aerospace, precision instrument lubrication, and nuclear irradiation protection in extreme operating conditions.
Industry analysts say that previously, the high-purity phenylsilicone market was dominated by foreign companies. Domestic companies faced challenges due to the limited availability of high-purity raw materials and narrow distribution polymerization processes, resulting in insufficient supply of high-end products. Downstream manufacturers encountered problems such as long import delivery times and significant price fluctuations. In recent years, domestic silicone companies have increased their research and development efforts. Core indicators such as metal ion control and viscosity batch variation in electronic-grade phenylsilicone have been improved to match imported products. Production lines capable of producing ten thousand tons of high-purity phenylsilicone have been established, and the localization rate has steadily increased, effectively reducing the supply chain risks for domestic high-end manufacturing enterprises.
According to industry forecasts, the market size of high-end phenylsilicone will continue to grow at a high rate in 2026, with the electronics and new energy sectors becoming the main drivers of this growth. At the same time, there remains a shortage of high-purity raw material production capacity, which is a key area for future development. With the continued implementation of special policies for advanced silicone materials in China, the green and large-scale production of specialty materials like phenylsilicone will accelerate, contributing to the independent and controllable development of China’s high-end material industry chain.
