(September 15, 2026) Recently, the domestic epoxy silicone oil industry has seen accelerated technological development and a growing demand from high-end applications. Thanks to its unique molecular structure, which combines the thermal resistance of silicon-oxygen chains, low surface energy properties, and reactive capabilities of epoxy groups, epoxy silicone oil is being used as a reactive modifier in various fields such as coatings, electronic packaging, new energy technologies, and medical accessories. The process of domestic substitution is also accelerating.

Epoxy silicone oil can participate in cross-linking reactions within resin systems. Unlike ordinary silicone oils that are merely physically added, it effectively addresses problems such as brittleness, poor weather resistance, and poor interfacial compatibility in epoxy resins and polyurethane materials. When an appropriate amount of epoxy silicone oil is added, the fracture elongation rate of the cured material increases, and its ability to resist cracking under variable temperature conditions improves. At the same time, it retains good insulation, waterproofing, and aging resistance properties. Therefore, it is an essential modifier for high-performance composite materials.

In terms of downstream markets, electronic packaging and new energy sectors are the main drivers of increasing demand for epoxy silicone oil. In the fields of Mini/Micro LED and semiconductor packaging and testing, high-purity, low-impurity epoxy silicone oil is used as a toughening agent in encapsulation adhesives, thereby reducing internal stress and enhancing the long-term reliability of devices. In the new energy sector, there is a steady increase in demand for epoxy silicone oil that can withstand arcs and weather conditions in battery pack sealing, insulating coatings, and wind turbine blade composites. Many silicone companies have collaborated with leading new energy companies to develop customized grades; some products have already gone through pilot tests and are now in the stage of mass production verification.

The coating industry is another major application area for epoxy silicone oil. With the implementation of new regulations regarding VOC control in industrial coatings in China, eco-friendly materials that contain low VOCs and no heavy metals have become essential in this industry. As a leveling agent and resin modifier, epoxy silicone oil can be used in water-based industrial paints and anti-corrosion coatings, improving the smoothness of the paint surface and its resistance to stains. It meets the needs for long-term protection in bridges, steel structures, and high-end equipment. In the traditional textile industry, end-epoxy silicone oil continues to be used as a functional fabric treatment that provides softness and anti-static properties, supporting export orders.

On the technical side, domestic manufacturers continue to improve key processes such as precise control of molecular chains and purification of low-loop bodies. Several polyether-epoxy co-modified silicone oils have been developed domestically, breaking through foreign technological barriers. Medical-grade epoxy silicone oil developed by new material companies has been approved for use as a component in medical devices, and it is applied in situations such as hydrophilic lubricating coatings for catheters, opening up a high-value niche market. Industry data indicates that the overall market size of epoxy silicone oil in China is expected to grow at a double-digit rate in 2026. The proportion of high-end grades produced domestically continues to increase, and export orders are steadily growing. Products are sold to coating and textile industries in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and other regions.

Industry analysts say that the epoxy silicone oil industry has moved away from pure price competition and is now competing on customized formulations, stable quality, and compliance credentials. Downstream sectors such as new energy, semiconductors, and medical materials have higher standards for material purity and batch stability, which forces the optimization of production capacity in the industry. Small and less efficient producers are gradually eliminated, while leading companies continue to expand their market share due to their full industrial chain advantages. In the future, as high-end manufacturing expands, new types of epoxy silicone oil that combine low-carbon processes and biocompatibility will become important growth areas in the silicone fine chemical industry.
