(August 22, 2026) Recently, products of acrylic silicone oil in the field of new materials have undergone a new round of process optimization. Acrylic silicone oil with high single functional group activity can now be produced on a stable scale. This product is capable of working in both water-based and solvent-based formulations. It effectively addresses the problems associated with traditional coatings and resins, such as poor weather resistance, poor feel, and tendency to form voids. This helps narrow the technical gap compared to foreign products, thereby promoting the improvement and upgrading of downstream industries such as coatings, electronics, and new energy coatings.

As a core modifier for silicone-acrylic hybrid materials, acrylic silicone oil has molecular segments that combine the advantages of silicone – low surface tension, resistance to high and low temperatures, and hydrophobicity and weather resistance – with the reactive cross-linking ability of the acrylic group. It can be incorporated into acrylic resins and emulsion systems through chemical bonding. Unlike simple physical blending, after modification, there is no risk of silicon phase precipitation or dullness of the coating film. The active content of this new generation product reaches 99.9%, and its molecular weight is within the range of 300–400. Its small-molecule structure provides excellent penetration properties. With a design based on single functional groups, the cross-linking reaction is gentle and controllable, avoiding the problem of excessive cross-linking and brittleness of the coating film that may occur with multi-functional products. This makes the formulation more reliable.

In practical applications, to improve the feel and smoothness of the coating film, only 0.2–1% amount of this product is needed to give wood coatings, plastic coatings, and leather coatings a durable and smooth texture. For anti-staining properties, adding 2–6% of this product can create a dense silicon-based protective layer on the coating surface, increasing stain resistance by more than 40%. The coating can withstand up to 5,000 washes, making it suitable for use on building exteriors, household appliance coatings, and outdoor industrial coatings. In water-based coatings, it also helps improve leveling and wetting properties, reducing problems such as brush marks, voids, and orange peel effects during application. This aligns with the trend toward low VOC green coatings.

Market research data shows that the global market for acrylic silicone materials continues to grow steadily, with Asia-Pacific being one of the fastest-growing regions. New energy vehicle coatings, photovoltaic protective coatings, and electronic packaging materials are key areas of growth. Demand in the electronics sector is increasing by over 20%. Domestic downstream industries have higher requirements for materials that are resistant to ultraviolet radiation, have good aging resistance, minimal precipitation, and comply with regulatory standards such as REACH and low-ring siloxanes. This forces upstream silicone oil manufacturers to shift from using generic additives to producing customized, high-purity special grades.

Industry experts say that in the past, high-quality acrylic silicone oils relied heavily on imports. However, with advancements in domestic synthesis processes and molecular customization technologies, domestic products are now able to match foreign products in terms of core performance indicators, and their cost advantage is evident. Nevertheless, the industry still faces challenges such as difficulties in purifying certain high-quality grades and insufficient experience in formulating these products. In the future, companies will need to continue developing ultra-high purity and low-ring siloxane versions of these products. At the same time, they should work more closely with coating and new material factories to develop customized grades for emerging applications such as UV curing, marine anti-fouling coatings, and flexible electronics protection coatings, thereby expanding market opportunities.

Currently, these products are supplied in bulk to many domestic coating and new material companies. With the advancement of green coating policies and the expansion of the new energy industry, acrylic silicone oil is expected to play an important role in replacing imported high-performance materials.
