(August 14, 2026) Recently, significant progress has been made in the domestic organosilicon intermediates industry. The new generation of high-precision hydroxyl silicone oil production lines have been able to operate at full capacity for 72 hours without any disruptions. High-quality hydroxyl silicone oils used for electronic applications and sealants are now available in large quantities and with stable quality. Many key performance indicators have reached international standards, indicating that China’s efforts to replace imported materials in this area of key organosilicon intermediates are accelerating.

As a type of end-hydroxyl polysiloxane, hydroxyl silicone oil serves as a fundamental raw material for the synthesis of silicone rubber, sealants, and modified silicone oils. Thanks to the active hydroxyl groups at both ends of its molecular chain, it can participate in various chemical reactions such as condensation and grafting modifications. It is widely used in construction sealing, electronic encapsulation, textile additives, new energy technologies, and personal care products. It is an essential functional intermediate in the fine chemical industry. For a long time, there was sufficient supply of ordinary grades of hydroxyl silicone oil in China. However, high-end grades faced issues such as high ring-shaped siloxane residues, variable hydroxyl content, and poor batch consistency. In electronic and high-end sealing applications, many rely on imported raw materials, which results in high procurement costs and long delivery times, thereby hindering the development of the downstream industrial chain.

It is understood that the new production line implemented this time eliminates the traditional batch hydrolysis process and uses a combined technique of directional ring-opening polymerization and molecular distillation for purification. This allows for precise control of the hydroxyl content, while effectively reducing volatile components and ring-shaped siloxane residues. The differences between different batches of products have been significantly reduced, solving the problems associated with uneven molecular weight distribution and high levels of small molecules in the industry. This enables the product to meet the requirements of high-demand applications such as building curtain wall sealing, electronic encapsulation, photovoltaic applications, and specialized textile treatments.

Industry research data shows that the domestic hydroxyl silicone oil market has maintained steady growth in recent years. Demand from areas such as new energy, electronics manufacturing, and high-end textiles has continued to increase. However, the market is highly segmented: there is ample supply of general and low-purity products, while high-purity, low-residue special hydroxyl silicone oils still lack sufficient supply, creating opportunities for domestic substitution. With the implementation of national standards, the industry has set higher requirements for indicators such as hydroxyl content, acid value, volatile components, and colority. This forces manufacturers to improve their synthesis and purification processes, leading to a shift from large-scale production to more refined manufacturing methods.

Industry experts say that currently, there is limited new production capacity for organosilicon monomers, and the overall market remains in a tight balance. Companies with capabilities in process control, purification, and custom development will continue to gain a competitive advantage. In the future, the industry will focus on producing low-impurity electronic-grade products and customized hydroxyl silicone oils, while also emphasizing green production practices to reduce energy consumption and byproduct emissions during the production process. This will provide a more stable and reliable supply of raw materials for China’s silicone rubber, sealant, and modified silicone oil industries.
