(August 5, 2026) Recently, the domestic deep processing market for organosilicon has been undergoing ongoing structural changes. As the core material for the organosilicon industry, methyl silicone oil (polydimethylsiloxane, PDMS) is experiencing a shift from green process innovation and demand from emerging downstream sectors. The industry is moving away from the era of simply competing on production capacity, accelerating its iteration toward higher purity, lower volatility, and customization.
Methyl silicone oil features excellent thermal stability, chemical inertness, and low surface tension. It covers many fields such as industrial demolding and defoaming, textile additives, personal care, food processing, electronics and electrical applications, and new energy. It is one of the most widely used and widely used basic silicone raw materials. Domestically, China is already the world's main production base for methyl silicone oil, with ample supply of ordinary industrial-grade products. However, there is still a structural supply-demand gap for high value-added products such as electronics-grade and pharmaceutical-cosmetic grades, leaving ample room for domestic substitution in the high-end market.
At the production process level, traditional batch alkali-catalyzed polymerization routes consume high energy and have large batch differences. Since 2026, technologies such as continuous polymerization, new heterogeneous solid catalysts, and low-molecular-weight cyclic closed-loop recycling will be gradually implemented. The new process will enable catalyst recycling, reduce wastewater and salt discharge, significantly lower unit production energy consumption, narrower molecular weight distribution, and significantly improved batch consistency, better meeting the stringent control standards for impurities and volatile compounds in daily chemicals, semiconductors, and medical devices. Large-scale application of deep molecular distillation technology effectively removes low-molecular-weight siloxanes, helping domestic methyl silicone oil break through into the high-end segment.
From the perspective of market supply and demand, affected by upstream price fluctuations in organosilicon monomer DMC prices, the domestic methyl silicone oil market will generally show a volatile consolidation pattern in 2026. The general industrial-grade methyl silicone oil market prices remained range-bound, while the traditional downstream textile and coatings industries were in a seasonal off-season, with procurement mainly based on on-demand procurement; Meanwhile, demand in new energy cooling, 5G communications, biomedicine, and high-end beauty sectors continues to rise steadily, driving strong orders for high-purity methyl silicone oil, and export markets are showing marginal recovery.
The competitive landscape of the industry continues to optimize, and market concentration has further increased. Leading integrated enterprises rely on a complete industrial chain to continuously develop high-end silicone oil technological transformation projects and strengthen R&D of high-purity products; A large number of small and medium-sized manufacturers are gradually exiting low-end homogeneous competition and shifting to customized development for niche scenarios, and the industry's situation of "low-end internal competition and high-end shortage" is gradually improving. Under the dual carbon policy, downstream customers increasingly value products with low VOC, low residue, and green production traceability, forcing manufacturers to upgrade quality control systems and environmental protection devices.
Industry insiders analyze that future growth drivers for the methyl silicone oil industry will no longer come from simple capacity expansion, but from the expansion of emerging downstream application scenarios and product quality upgrades. Tracks such as thermal management for new energy vehicles, precision electronic damping, medical excipients, and functional beauty ingredients will become important growth drivers for high-end methyl silicone oil. If domestic companies continue to overcome core technologies in refining, purification, and impurity control, they are expected to further narrow the gap with overseas brands and accelerate the process of import substitution in high-end sectors.
