With the continuous development of science and technology, people have higher and higher requirements for material properties, and there is a large market for hydrophobic coating materials. Based on the principle of "lotus leaf effect" in botany and the idea of particle design, the researchers combined nano-composite particle technology, sol-gel method and organic-inorganic emulsion composite technology to prepare emulsion composite particles with different shapes by exploring the influence of composite particle shapes on the surface microstructure and surface hydrophobic properties of rough coating films. The self-stratification function of fluorinated silicone acrylate emulsion is used to give the film a low surface energy, and the special shape composite particles are used to give the film a different microstructure, so as to produce different hydrophobic properties.
The researchers used core-shell emulsion polymerization, organic and inorganic composite technology and grafting method to prepare irregular shaped composite particles with "plum blossom" shape, and the water contact Angle increased from 106° to 154° on the smooth surface. Based on the simple sol-gel method, the process was improved, and the organic-inorganic emulsion composite was combined with sol-gel technology to prepare the strawberry composite particles covered with SiO2 particles. The water contact Angle was increased from 106° to 158°, and the rolling Angle was reduced to less than 5°. This strawberry-like composite particle makes the coating surface have a hierarchical rough structure similar to the lotus leaf surface microstructure, thus achieving super hydrophobic properties.
